(.Received Feb. 18, 1.3 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 17. Mr. Asquith, in moving to appropriate private members’ time for Government business, said that the special circumstances of the Coronation * must entail, a suspension of Parliamentary activity. He emphasised the necessity for passing tho Parliament Bill. The Bill would '>() to the Lords in May, giving full opportunity for discussion before the Coronation. Mr Austen Chamberlain charged the Government with disregard of the loyal feelings of the nation and the comfort of the Crown, by deliberately aiming at a crisis just before the Coronation. After a long debate, Mr. Asquith’s motion was carried by 196 to 118. THE TARIFF REFERENDUM. Addressing , a meeting in London the other night, Mr Balfour announced’ that he had 1 had a conference with Mr. Austen Chamberlain with a view to reconciling the differences that had arisen over the referendum on the tariff. While agreeing that it would be folly to submit to the people such matters as the details of the Budget, lie considered that the referendum ought to be a permanent part of the machinery of Government. LORDS STILL WILLING TO NEGOTIATE, The Marquis of Lansd'owne intimated in the House of Lords recently that the Peers were still ready to, negotiate with the Government regarding the relations between the two Houses. THE ALIENS’ ACT. As the King's speech did not contain any reference to the Aliens’ Act, the Opposition have given notice of an amendment that will have the effect of raising the question.
