Owing to persistent rains, the river Clyde overflowed, causing tramway traffic to be suspended. Trains are running with difficulty. Football matches had to be postponed. Three rivers in Irvine district, Ayrshire, overflowed, flooding the pits and houses, and imprisoning many inhabitants. A great many sheep have been drowned, and tracts of country are under water.
