ENTERTAINMENTS.

PATHE PICTURES. The excellence of the programme submitted by the. Rathe Picture Proprietary in His Majesty’s Theatre last night attracted a large audience and at the conclusion of the exhibition they were manifestly well content with the entertainment. The films shown comprised an infinite variety of subjects, well calculated to please the most cosmopolitan taste, and the manner in which they were projected on to the screen added in no small degree to the enjoyment with which they were -received'. The eminently popular American Biograph Company was well represented, the ‘‘"star” Item being a strong dramatic film entitled “Simple Charity.” That favourite and charming actress, Miss Dolly Nicholson , had a congenial role in this picture, and the whole production was an artistic one. Other dramatic films were: “The (Sepoy’s Wife,” “The Slave of Carthage,” “Sunshine Sue’’ —each a capital representation of its title and of widely divergent character. The latest “Tatlic Animated Gazette” carried the onlooker all round the world in a very few minutes, items of topical interest from all parts of the globe being pourtrayed in a pleasing manner. In the way of scenic films, “A Ramble through tbe Isle of Ceylon” was most realistic, the setting being extremely pretty. As usual, the lovers of comics were well catered for, and this time by a really clever set of films. Among the best- of those shown wore “Foolshead knows how to take his precautions,’’ “Jean, the AATitchmaker,” and “The Big Drum.” Taken all round, the programme ?3 well up to the high standard of the previous exhibitions, and is well worth seeing. It will be repeated to-night, and an entire change will he submitted to-morrow night.
