A CANOE FATALITY.
MANAGER OF FULLER’S OPERA HOUSE DROWNED. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 22. Mr. Alex. Forbes On* manager of Fuller’s Opera House, was found drowned in- the Avon towards Dallington early this evening. It appears that he went out alone in a canoe, and that some youths walking along the bank of the river later saw the canoe floating bottom upwards. A boy in a- punt came along, and was assisting to get the cance to shore, when he saw Mr. Orr’s body beneath it. It is assumed that hv some means the canoe overbalanced and Mr. Orr was unable to extricate himself. When the body was got ashore artificial respiration was tried for over an hour, but without avail, and when the medical man, who was sent for as soon as the fatality was discovered, arrived, all he could do was to pronounce life extinct. Mr. Orr came from Wellington, where his people reside.
