BOY IMMIGRANTS.
THE SEDGWICK SCHEME COMMENDED. fPER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] PALMERSTON N., Feb. 24. At a meeting of the Wellington Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Unio;i, held at Palmerston yesterday, the following resolution was passed in connection with the importation of hoys for farm, work, .after hearing an address by Mr. Sedgwick, founder -of the scheme: “That this Executive, having seen that the Hon. Mr. Millar had stated that no further boys should he brought out l>v way of assisted immigrants, to work in the country foT twelve months, consider Mr. Millar can have no conception of the demand in the country for such lads as have been lately brought out by Mr. Sedgwick, who have all been placed in satisfactory employment. Further, that January, which would be the month in which they would land, is too late for the hoys to be of most use, and that September would he a much better month for the lads to land, as it is the spring of the year, when the work of the farm is commencing. This executive would therefore urge Mr. Millar to continue this excellent scheme, so as to enable the boys to land And settle in the Dominion in September in each year, instead of waiting for the full twelve months.” The holding of the annual ■provincial conference of delegates from branches was fixed for May 30th, at Woodville.
