Mr Clem Hill, interviewed, was enthusiastic over Hordern’s bowling. Personally, ho- considers him the best googlie bowler. He had tremendously strengthened the Australian team. With him they could beat an English team. The total receipts for the fourth testmatch amounted to £1677. A YORKSHIRE PROPOSAL. LONDON, Feb. 23. Yorkshire’s recommendation that county cricket matches in 1912 be confined to two days is exciting attention. A. C. Jones, the Notts captain, believes that such an action would increase public interest, but P. F. Warner, Middlesex captain, emphatically opposes the proposal, as he considers it would abolish uphill fighting as part of the game. Leveson Gower, Surrey captain, is not averse to trying it as an experiment, and says they would' have the advantage of discussing it with the Australians and South Africans while in England.
SOUTH AFRICA V. NEW SOUTH WALES. FIXE SCORING BY HOME TEAM. (Received Feb, 24, 0.30 p.m.) “SYDNEY, Feb. 24. The weather was fine, and the wicket perfect for the match between. South Africa and N.fe'.W. Trumper won the toss, and opened with Bardsley to the bowling of Vogler and Pearse. Pearse’s second ball, a. yorker, howled Trumper’s middle stump. In the next over Bardsley tipped a short one to the slips, where Snooke held it. Kelleway and McEllione, together, played carefully, and quickly caused a change in the bowling. With the score at 33 Kelleway stood in front ,to Pegler. and was given out. Macartney, following, was given ironical cheers. He, however, quickly settled down in a determined manner and showed, in spite of his many recent failures, that he is not a back number. McElhone played faultlessly, and, with Macartney, completely icollared the bowling. The youngster’s hard drives and late cuts were particularly attractive. Schwarz tried his whole bowling contingent without success. With the total at 38, Snooke. in the slips, missed a chance of catching Macartney, off Pegler. McElhone continued to force the pace, playing beautifully. When his total was at 94 he had bad luck. In pidling Sinclair to the houndary he kicked his wicket. The crowd was disappointed ap ihis missing his century. He batted for two hours and hit 12 fours Collins joined Macartney, and quickly justified his inclusion in the team. Macartney scored -50 in the hour. Then he played with greater freedom and brought up the hundred in another 40 minutes. (Received Feb. 24, 8.53' p.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 24. When the score stood at 119, Pegler caught Mac-artnev at deep cover point off Faulkner. He had batted for two hours ten minutes, and hit 18 fonrers. Collins and Emery proved to be a forcefid partnership, until the former was caught in second slip bv Strieker off Nourse. He hit seven tourers. Emory lifted Schwarz for six, and treated ail the bowling with great falniliarity. Massie Toozer, and Min nett the new men, all shaped poorly. The attendance was 4300. The South. African bowlers seemed stale, and'the fielding was poor, the men beincr without the dash which characterised their previous visit. The following are the detailed scores: NEW SOUTH WALES—First Innings.
