AUCTION SALE OF LEASES. [PEE PKESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 23. The leases of various Government and Canterbury College back country runs were put up to auction to-day. For some of the runs bidding was spirited, the keenest competition being for Double Hill No. 4 Run of 22,500 acres, in Ashburton County, the upset rental for which was £420, but which was actually disposed of for £BOO. The Canterbury College runs all brought good rentals. Mrs. Gerard purchased lease of part of Mesopotamia (58,000 acres) for £7O; Mrs. Lascelles purchased Lake Heron (37,500 acres) for £500; D. Finlay, Snowden (6600 acres), £160; no bid for Upper Hurunui (45,000 acres); Mrs. Murchison, Lake Coleridge (18,000 acres), £4O; Canterbury College runs.—Run 69, Waitangi (19,025 acres), J. Preston, £420; run 71, Grey’s Hill (29,862 acres), J. Grant, £710; Lake Coleridge North (38,680 acres), Mrs. Murchison, £745; Lake Coleridge- South (17,090 acres), Mrs. Murchison, £505.
