A deputation, representing the Social Committee of the Church of England, and including Archbishop Clarke, interviewed Mr. Batchelor with respect to the ear© of the aborigines. It was suggested that land should be reserved, and that the Federal Government take over the whole of tli© control of the aborigines. Mr, Batchelor said the treatment the natives had had in the past was a blot on Australia. The Government was not -going to allow this condition of affairs to continue. As protectors, two inspectors would be appointed, also medical officers for various districts, to look after the blacks. _ One or two reserves would -be, immediately established.
