POVERTY BAY CLUB

The races under the auspices of the above club for the- handsome trophies presented by the President were continued last evening, when two further heats were decided. J. Stuart (st.), TV. Hall, -J. Corbett, and S Ledger beat -J. Nicolas >(st.), J. Weston, 0. Hansen and T. Bristow;. The former crew led from the start, but on passing the footbridge Nicolas had drawn level. An excellent race ensued from there to the. finishing post, Stuart winning by a bare half length. C Winter (st,), W. Neill, N. Moore, and C. Davis heat H. Holschier (st.); J. O’Neill, -J. Newton, and P, Holschier. Holschier was the quickest to get going and showed the way until in the vicinity of the brewery, where Winter came up alongside. The crews rowed together all the wav after this point, but in the final sprint Winter more than held his own and won fairly comfortably. The races will be continued to-night, when Winter’s and Stuart’s crews, will try conclusions. The other race will he betwen W. McGuffie (st.), A. Tubert, J. Martin and L. Clark, and E. Roche (st.), J. Prickett, P. P. Stubbs and F. Snowden.

They include the two Arnsts, Lawson (New Zealand), Pearse. Fogwell (2), Kemp (3), Matterson (2), Towns, Hagney and Messenger, and most of the other leading scullers.
