A COMING MISSION. LPEK PRESS ASSOCIATION..} CHRISTCHURCH, March 7. At the Methodist Conference a gift of £IOO for the Home and Foreign Missions was received from “5.W.0.” Arrangements were made for the Rev. J. G. Wheen’s mission, commencing in Canterbury on April 21 ; Otago, May 17; Wellington, June 7 and June 25; Auckland, July 30. The appointments of Home missionaries were reported and confirmed. At the afternoon sitting, the Methodist Conference decided to draw the attention of church members' to the fact that the legal name of the Church no longer contained the word Wesleyan, hut- was at present the Methodist Church of Australasia, in New Zealand. The committee set up to report regarding the centenary of Methodism had no recommendation, to make, and pointed c‘ut that the centenary of the introduction, of Christianity into New Zealand would be celebrated in 1914, and it would be inadvisable to have two such celebrations close together.
It was decided that every five years, commencing in: 1911, each Trust Board should make for its District Synod a return of the capital value of the properties under its control, showing the unimproved value and the value of improvements, each Synod to report to the. conference.
A committee was set up to collect evidence regarding the workings of the New South Wales, or Nelson, or any other system of Bible-reading in schools and report to the next, conference. A motion was agreed to. to the effect that the time was ripe for provision being made for the New Zealand University granting degrees in divinity. An invitation from Pitt Street, to hold the (next con f eric ire© there c-n February 29th,, 1012, was accepted, and after passing several votes of thanks the conference rose.
