Mr Justice Chapman will take the bi-annual sittings of the Supreme Court, which will open in Gisborne on Monday.

There will be no Bathe Pictures shown to-night, but to-morrow an entirely new programme will be exhibited, including all the latest in the biograph era.

The Valuer-General (Mr F. W. Flanagan) will arrive in Gisborne to-day by the Mokoia. While here Mr Flanagan will inquire into the valuations of the To Aral settlement, representations having been made by settlers that their property has been valued too high, when compared with the adjoining country. Consequently, they are forced to contribute rates which they allege are excessive.

The secretary of the Poverty Bay Sheep Dog Trial Club has received telegraphic advice that Mr W. 0. Rutherford, of Canterbury, has consented to act as judge at the trials to be hold netx month. Miller, 90. , The annual picnic in connection with the Makauri School was held in Mr J. McCreedy’s paddock on Monday. The locality was an ideal one, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the outing. The catering arrangements were in the hands of Mesdames Walker, Revell, Smith, McCreedy. Reid, Pearson, Wauchop, Sharp, McDonald", Lester, Burch, and Mortleman. assisted by the Misses Thompson, Walker, Smith and McKenzie. A large programme of athletic events was carried through by the head teacher, Mr Wauchop, assisted by Messrs McCreedy, Reid, Smith, Revel 1, Bin me. H olt, and Walker. The hoys’ championship race was won by Cyril McDonald 1 and the girls’ by Doris Smith.

The Gramaphone Co., Ltd., have appointed Messrs E. Chrisp and Son, music warehousemen, sole, agents for their famous gramophones and records. The agency is for Gisborne and district. Messrs Chrisp and Son have received their new stock of machines and records and intend giving a free public concert at an- early date.

To get up in the morning and be faced with the necessity of shaving before leaving home for work, is an experience which most men have. Grant; referee, Rev. Dawson Thomas: gatekeeper, Mr W. L. File. A general meeting of the Gisborne Liedertafel Society was held in the Social hall of the Cosmopolitan Club last evening. A practice took place before the meeting, and some very interesting items were given. At the meeting a number of new members were nominated and a vote of thanks t° the committee of the Cosmopolitan Club for placing their social hall at the disposal of the society was carried unanimously .
