ENERGY OF THE SON.
A SCIENTIST’S VIEW
[UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.] LONDON. March 6.
Sir J. J. Thomson, Professor of Physics at the Royal Institute, states that the sun transmits power on a clear day equivalent- to 7000 horse-power per acre. It they were to harness all the power required fer the world’s work it would be obtained at- the cost-of lowering the temperature by a degree or two. The suggestion- of radio-activity in the ease of the sun's energy, Sir J. Thomson regards as useless, because the life of radium is insignificantly short. The only tenable hypothesis was Helmholtz’s, which traces the- energy of the sun to shrinking within itself to the extent of about 200 feet a year.
