It is now possible to make the journey between Wellington and Greymouth several tinies a week in the short space of twenty-four hours. Mr. T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P. for Westland, expresses appreciation of this big improvement in communication with the once isolated West Coast, and explained to a “New Zealand Times” representative that it. is due to the extension of the railway service from Broken River to Cass on the Bealey side of Arthur’s Pass. Passengers are able to leave Wellington by tl|e Maori one evening, catch the train for Cass early next morning, and, connecting by coach with the West Coast train at Otira, reach Greymouth at 8 o’clock in the evening. “This is accomplished,” said Mr. Seddon. “without hurrying in anw way, but the extraordinary part of an otherwise satisfactory arrangement is that you cannot travel- with the same speed in the contrary direction. The Railway Department has been urged to improve the service from Greymouth, as the train reaches Christchurch at 8 p.m., too late for the Wellington steamer. There seems to be no reason why' the public should not get’the benefit of a fash service in both directions; and this'is one-pf the matters I shall bring under the :notice' of the Minister for.. Railways.” . ,
