EDITORS IN THE RING.

A VIGOROUS THREE ROUNDS’ FIGHT. They take their politics very seriously up in Charlesville (Q.), but debate must have waxed warm when two pressmen simultaneously recognised that the glove was mightier than the pen. Charlesville has, says the “Sun,” two newspapers, the “Times,” which is a Liberal organ, and the “Guardian,” which upholds the Labor policy. Mr. Cornelius Murphy edits the former, and Mr. John Kilncr the latter. The papers had been bitterly talking back at each other without arriving at any finality, and the editors at iast published challenges to a personal combat. These were accepted. and a glove contest was arranged to take place at the opening of the Albert Hall’s new gymnasium club. The building was packed, and partisanship ran high. No time was wasted in sparring for openings, as the men immediately ‘ashed at each other, and when not in clinches used both hands like flails. Mr. Murphy had much the better of things when they returned to their chairs. The Liberal champion began the second round with a charge which his opponent could not withstand. Mr. Kilner hung on to avoid punishment, but he was in a bad way, when the gong saver) him. The third round sow the complete downfall of Labor. Continuing his hurricane tactics, Mr. Murphy quickly had his man in queer street. In a terrific onslaught he landed heavily several times, and Mr. K fine hung limp on the ropes. Only one punch was required for a knock-out. but before it could bo delivered, the referee and police interfered, and called Mr. Murphy off. One of the most extraordinary glove fights ever witnessed in Australia ended in a scene of wild confusion.
