STUNG TO ACTION.
CRAVE SITUATION IN MEXICO. A WAR OF EXTERMINATION PLANNED. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.] WASHINGTON, Mar. 10. There are conflicting reports of the Mexican situation. Apparently President Diaz has been stung to action since the American troops appeared, and a war of extermination has been planned against the insurgents. A species of martial law was passed on Saturday. It provides for the execution of a person tampering with railways, wrecking trains, raiding villages ancl farms, and cutting telegraphs. The War Minister announces that the full severity of the law will not be apnlied at first. The Mexican Minister, interviewed at New York, ridiculed the suggestion that America had sought to depose President Diaz. Madero, the revolutionists’ leader, ■has addressed a note to foreign Powers, guaranteeing the persons and property of foreigners residing in Mexico. AUSTRALIAN OFFER RIDICULED. MELBOURNE, Mar. 13. Wonthaggi residents ridicule the cabled statement that 500 men have offered for revolutionary service in Mexico. They state that-that number would exhaust half the employes in the Government mine.
