DEFENCE OF THE COLONIES.
ADMIRAL HENDERSON’S REPORT.
GOVERNMENT PREPARED TO CARRY IT INTO EFFECT.
UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.] PERTH, March 16.
Senator Pearce, Federal Minister for Defence, states that the Government will be prepared to carry Admiral Henderson’s report into effect if the people give the power. Phases of the report would not be touched for years, but the immediate programme would be an extensive one.
CABINET MINISTER’S’ STATEMENT ON GROWING FRIENDSHIP.
The Postmaster-General, Mr. Herbert Samuel, in a speech at the annual dinner in London of the British International Association of Journalists, said it was the height of folly to pretend for a moment that it could conceivably be a good thing for nations to fly at one another’s throats because in the process soldiers were able to exhibit the heroic qualities they possess. It was the task of his hearers as journalists to seze every opportunity that might be open to them to emphasise the signs of good will which now happily were growing between Englandand Germany in order to conduce to a happier relationship between the two countries. Certainly there were few objects dearer to the hearts of the members of the present Government than a. permanent and marked improvement in the relations between our German neighbours and ourselves.
