Tlie Premier, in hi.s speech, declared that those running the referenda are the most intolerant people in the world. He added: “They are asking ns to destroy the Federal constitution, winch would topple over our heads, or give place to unification.” MINISTER FOR WORKS BREAKS SILENCE. SYDNEY, March 18. Mr. Griffiths, Minister for Works, has broken the silence he maintained regarding the referenda. ITe declared that lie was in' favor of ultimate unification. Referring to the rumored split in the Labor party over the referenda, he said there is no split. Messrs McGowen, Holman and hilmse'lf believed that the Federal Parliament should be clothed with power to enforce the new protection, nationalise .monopolies, aocr give' uniform industrial conditions, but they thought tlie powers sought were far more than were actually required to give effect to these principles.
