ALLEGED USE OF A SHOTGUN.
A COMMITTAL FOIi TRIAL. LVER PRESS ASSOCIATION.J NAPIER, March 20. At the Magistrate's Court this morning a young man named John Young Hanney, charged with having fired a shot-gun at three others, Robert Colquhoun, John Miller, and Fred. Johnson, was committed for trial at the Supreme Court, bail being allowed. The evidence showed that a quarrel took place in one of the* main streets on the evening of March 13th, and that the three prosecutors afterwards followed the accused to* his home, for the purpose, they stated, of demanding an apology. The accused wont into the house, and, it is alleged, brought out a shotgun and discharged both barrels at the ether three men, who were then in full retreat, thinking that Haiinay had brought some friends to his assistance. Colqulioun was struck bv two pellets of shot, but was cnlv slightly injured. Hannav savs that be merely fired to scare the others, and when he thought they were at a safe distance.
