WAIAPU SHEEP DOG TRIAL CLUB.

SECOND'DAY. The Waiapu sheep dog trials were continued at Mangaliaiuni, Tokomaru Bay, at 7.30 yesterday morning. The weather wars fine during the morning, but light rain set in about noon and continued intermittently throughout the afternoon. The rain; however, was not sufficiently heavy to interfere with the work. The morning was occupied in completing class 1 (long head). The judge lost no time in making his award. Mr T. Farr’s Roy gained first place, with 28 points. The winner made a very good head, but was a trifle rash when pulling his sheep. He showed to good advantage in holding and was well under command. Mr. N. Sullivan’s Rag was placed second, with 26 points. This dog also made a good run, and a good cast, blit crossed bis head. He held his sheep well, and was under good command. The following are the results Bving--1 Head- ing Hold- Coming Back ing mand T 1

After lunch Class 2 (head, bring back and yard) was commenced. Eleven dogs ’competed up till 5 o’cice'k, when the fading light compelled operations to cease for the day. Mr. Farr’s Rag was the only deg that succeeded m yarding his sheep. The work on the whole was not of a satisfactory nature, the. majority of the owners not having their dogs under command. The thistles on the ground had, doubtless, something to do with the failure of the dogs to yard, a s the degs appeared disinclined to go up to their sheep and also failed to show sufficient pace. The trial will be resumed at 7.30 this morning. It is doubtful whether they will be finished by Saturday night, as it will take the whole of to-dav to get through class 2. in which there are 53 entries, and sixty dogs have entered for class 3 (huntaway). As on the first day the arrangements were well appointed. Mr. Chas. Tvlden, the eneigetic secretary, supervised the details in a most capable manner. The guessing competition was won by Mi - . J. Rodgers, who guessed 28Sl.bs as the live weight c.f the three sheep. The exact weight was 2891b5.
