VESSELS IN PORT

Regulus, s.s. Eangatira, s.s. (in the bay),

After having undergone her annual overhaul at Dunedin, the Union Co.’s Tarawera left that port on Sunday, and cleared Lyttelton last night. She is expected to leave Wellington to-day. and is due here late on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. There will be only one launch, that leaving the wharf at 6 a.m. on Thursday. The Union Co.’s Haupiri. which has been working the East Coast loading wool for transhipment to the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co.’s Eangatira, at present in the bay, is due here "to-day, and on discharging will proceed to Wellington, via Napier. Messrs. Richardson and Co.’s Fanny arrived in the roadstead late on Sunday evening from Tokomaru Bay, and came up to the wharf early yesterday morning. On working this port she sailed for Napier. The Union Co.’s Squall was due to sail from Auckland for Gisborne, via Tologa Bay. last night, and is expected to arrive here to-morrow evening. The Westport Coal Co.’s collier Regains, from Westport, arrived in the bay yesterday, and was lightered in the bay. Later she came up to the wharf to complete her discharge of the 500 tons of coal for the company’s local yards.

The Union Co.’s Wairuna is due to load at Bluff on April 3rd, Oamaru April sth, Timaru April 6th, and is expected to arrive in Gisborne somewhere about Sunday, April Oth. Norway easily leads the way as a competitor among foreigners for the purchase of British vessels. In 1910 she acquired tonnage in this way to the extent of 126,547 tons, being an increase of 59,636 tons in the tonnage which she bought from Great Britain during the previous year'. Italy is second on the list, with a total of 77,027 tons for last year; whilst Germany follows with an aggregate of 64,867 tons. Altogether nineteen different nation's became purchasers of ships from Britain .during the past year. America being lowest on the list, with a total of only 2377 tons.

The Marine Department at Wellington has received word from Commander Hooper, of the Amokura. stating that no fresh cases of scarlatina or sickness have occurred among the training ship boys. The vessel is now likely to leave Auckland next Tuesday for the Kermadee Islands. It has been arranged that Mr. H. C. Harnarm, chief officer of the Makura, shall leave that vessel at Vancouver, where she is due on April 5, and proceed to Glasgow to assist Mr. J. R. Campbell, the company’s building superintendent, in supervising the fitting out of the new steamer now being built at the Fairfield yards for the Union Company. BY TELEGRAPH. AUCKLAND, March 27.
