DEATH OF A PLAGUE PATIENT

Applications have -been received' from various parts of New Zealand between Auckland and Dunedin. Preparations are well advanced, and the Industrial Association is confident of a notable success. A RAROTONGA DIFFICULTY.
The inquiry into certain disputes between a European resident and the Resident Commissioner at Rarotonga, which have been the subject, of correspondence, is to take place in May, when the Native Minister is to make a report. The name of the departmental head who will conduct the inquiry is not yet available.
A COURT-MARTIAL. A private in the Hutt Valley Rifles was before a court-martial last night. The case was only a trivial one of refusing to help to carry ammunition to the Drill Hall, but is the first court-martial in the district under the new Defence Act, which now opens them to the press. Accused pleaded guilty, but the finding was not made public. THE NEW ZEALAND TEAM FOR BISLEY. Lieut-.-Col. Robert Hughes, of Wanganui, has accepted the managership of the New -Zealand team of marksmen which competes at Bisley this year. CHARGE OF CATTLE-STEALING. CHRISTCHURCH, March 29. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, George Gordon pleaded guilty to the theft of threq heifers, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Accused is a drover. He had been taking a big mob of cat-tie up to the Conway. He picked up the heifers on the way, trucked 1 them to Addington, and had them sold on his own account. DUNEDIN TRAMWAYS. DUNEDIN, March 29.
The City Corporation tramways show a credit balance for the year of £32,854, after deducting working expenses, as compared with £29.398 last year.
