TEACHERS’ INSTITUTE.
. —— —- POVERTY BAY' BRANCH. A meeting of the Poverty Bay branch of the Nevr Zealand Education Institute was held in-the Gisborne School on Saturday morning, when a great many members were present. ‘ A large ouantity of correspondence was dealt with. The matter of truancy was discussed, and the meeting considered it advisable that an officer be appointed in each of the centres to hunt up children who are not putting in the necessary attend- . nnces. It was decided to suggest to ; the Board that such an officer be called | an attendance officer, and that his at- , tentioo should be occupied with keening children up to the average attendance. . ! With regard to a promotion scheme, it was decided to place before the District Institute the one brought up last year by Air Marshall. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Rowlev, Bull, Leslie, Marshall, Cole and Faram, were appointed to draw up a geography scheme to place before the inspector. Satisfaction was expressed at the outcome of the recent litigation between Miss Black, a school teacher from ’Taranaki. and a private school teacher. Miss Black was employed at- a private school and resigned towards the end 1 of the year 1910. Her employer offered her payment up to the end of December of" that year, and this was accepted, under protest, as Miss Black contended that, under the regulations, she was entitled to payment, up to the end of January. 1911." The matter eventually , came before the Court, when the case j was settled and l the full month’s salary j nine £2 16s costs, was awarded to Miss Black. The date of the annual meeting was fixed for April 22nd. >
