A GOOD GAME.
the LATEST FOR GIRLS AND BOYS.
Trap, bat and ball, is a game for girls as well as. boys. It is a good playground game, even when space is limited, as the balls which are used ai e best made of stuffed leather, or soft india-rubber.. The fiat and trap with one or two balls can be bought, and are inexpensive. Two sides play—one side goes in and all bat in turn, the other side fields. One of the batsmen strikes the end or handle of the spoon, the ball should then rise into the air. and the art of the game is for the batsman to strike it as far as possible with the batbefore it reaches the ground. The other side who are “fielding.” try either to catch the ball before it falls to the ground, or if they cannot do this, the player who stops, it. picks it up and bowls it from where jt falls and endeavors to hit the trap. If a fielder succeeds in catching the ball before it touches the ground, all the “ms,” ouhatsmeu, arc out, and their side goes out 10 field, and the fielders go in to bat. If the trap is hit the batsman is out and another player of his side •takes his place, the batsman is also out if lie; allows the hall : t-n touch the trap when Hie, act of hitting it. or should he touch the trap with In's bat. One blayer of each .side stands by the trap (or an umpire if one is appointed), to see that the hall is struck properly, and that the trap >s not touched. Another method is for the players all to bat in turn, and the contest is simply who shall strike the hall to the
greatest distance in a given number of strokes to be measured before the ball is picked up, and from where it firstfell. This can he done by a cord made fast at one end near the trap, the other end being held by a player, who adjusts it to the ball wherever it may be.
