CUSTOMS RETURNS
The revenue received at the Gisborne Custom-house during last week was as follows:—Customs duties £2125 6s lid, beer dutv £B7 Bs, light dues £ls 7s 4d; total, £2228 2s 3d.
HORSE SALES. There was an exceptionally large attendance at Messrs. Williams and Kettle’s Horse Bazaar on Saturday, when about 70 horses of various stamps were offered. Hacks, of which there were some useful stamps, sold at prices ranging from £5 10s to £l3, while harness horses brought prices from £5 10s to £l7 10s. A number of unbroken springcart horses were offered, and sold at figures from £8 to £l3 10s. Competition was brisk at times, and the sale was a most satisfactory one. PRODUCE SALES. Messrs. F. S. Malcolm and Co. report their auction sale of produce held on Saturday as follows :—Pullets Is to Is 3d, hens Is 6d to Is 9d, roosters Is 7d to 2s 6d, young turkeys 3s 3d, eggs Is lid to 2s Id, butter iOd per* lb, bacon (sides) 6d per lb, apples 2d per lb, pears 1-kl per lb, tomatoes l£d to 2cl per lb, walnuts 3d per lb, bananas 3s 3d per case, cabbages 2s 6d per doz, rhubarb 3s per doz. bundles, kumeras l£d per lb, onions.os 9d per cwt, potatoes (inferior) 7s 6d per sack. Small vegetables sold at usual prices. The following were the prices obtained by Messrs. Miller and Craig at their produce sale on Saturday :—Cockerels is to Is 6d, hens Is to Is Bd, drakes Is 6d to Is 9d, potatoes 11s 6d per sack, onions 5s 6d cental, pumpkins 3s per doz, rhubarb 4d bundlle. tomatoes 2£d per lb, citron melons 5s doz, cucumbers Is doz, bananas 2ld lb, apples 2d per lb, pears Id to 2d lb, butter 9d to lid, eggs Is 7d to Is lOd doz.
