DAIRY COMPANY’S. TROUBLES.
A FAILURE AT TIMARU

TIMARU, April 8. Tlie Timaru Dairy Co. (a. small proprietary) which some time ago took over the factory, but not the creameries. of the. South Canterbury Co-opera-tive Company, that failed, has also failed, entailing a. loss to the suppliers whose milk arid cream are unpaid for. There have been several lively meetings to consider wliat is to be done. The Canterbury Company, of Christchurch, offer to buy cream. The Taieri and Peninsula (Duneain) Cos. are offering to. take over the business if the suppliers agree. To-day one meeting of suppliers asked for delay in. winding up the Timaru Co. in the 'hope of resuscitating it. At another, the Taieri and Peninsula representatives made proposals and a committee was set up to consider these and rep'orti to a .futuie meeting. Strong opposition came item North Otago, the objection being that the Taieri and Peninsula Co.’ should not be given a monopoly. The Timaru Co. has been drawing cream from that district.
