A SEAMAN’S FATE.
DROWNED WhiLE ATTEMPTING TO DESERT. [PEE VEERS ASSOCIATION.! AUCKLAND, April 11. At Rawene, in Hokianga harbor, two seamen made a determined attempt to desert from the Norwegian barque Lindstcl when she was lying at anchor, early this morning. One oi the men, evidently a strong swimmer, arranged to tow the other ashore, and tnis somewhat riskv task the two men set out upon. The second man could not keep himself afloat, however. and he was drowned. The swimmer towed the dead hndv cf his ccntraae ashore, and lepoit—ed what had occurred.
