THE POSSIBILITIES OF OTAGO.
ADVICE FROM MR MASSEY
[PER PEESS ASSOCIATION.} DUNEDIN, April 12
Mr Massey was waited on by a deputation representing two Otago Railway Leagues and Dunedin citizens. In reply Mr Massey said that the more he saw of Central Otago, the more impressed he was with its possibilities. It was eminently adapted for closer settlement, and 'had great possibilities for development. He spoke as a private member, and pointed out that the question was one above party. Ministers had expressed the opinion that railways sought for would not return a fair rate of interest. He did not agree with them in regard to the country he had seen. He was convinced it would carry many settlers for every one carried to-dav, and carry them well. He suggested that the'Otago people .should apply for a Government commission and report on the possibilities of Otago.
