FOR PIPES
Tlio Borough Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. W. D. Lysnar), and Crs. Pottie, Maynard, Hepburn, Darton, Collins, and Jackson. The specifications for the sewerage works 1 submitted by Mr. Marehant were considered, and it was decided to call for tenders.
Tenders for the supply of cement, bricks, and pines were received, but the Mayor considered that they should be left over to be considered by the now Council.
The Engineer pointed out that pipes would be wanted. ’
The Mayor said that he was surprised to know that the Engineer .had cut the. supply so close. He thought that whan he was authorised to get supplies he would have ordered sufficient. He took special opportunities to get prices for supnlieo of pipes, and the Engineer had a free hand in: the matter.
Cr. Pettis said that the Mayor should not attack the Engineer as the blame should be shouldered by the. Council. It was out of courtesy to the Mayor that the tenders had not been opened at last meeting, and the Council left them till lie came hack. The engineer, in reply to a question, su’d lie was short of junctions.
It was decided to hold over the tends: s, and to authorise tlm Engineer to get what was required m the meantime. The oue-tion of the nnvment of a cheque for f'SoO to Mr March an t was referred to the Finance. Ccmmittee.
