There was a. deep laceration and cavity in the brain filled with internal haemorrhage. The latter wonld be the cause of death. There was some o\ 1denee of disease in the arteries of the brain. By Mr. Bright: The diseased arteries might, have been a contributing factor to the man’s death. Jack Daulton McLeod, who was also in the vicinity of the shop at the time of the occurrence, gave evidence almost identical with that tendered by the witness Ensor. He also stated'that after knocking deceased to the ground, Easton went to where he was lying and said ‘'Get up. Jim.” By Mr Bright: The blow in the shop was a back-handed one. He did not think it would take much to knock Easton over in the condition he was in. By Sergt. Hogan. Deceased did not give Easton any provocation. Easton was sober enough. Similar evidence was given by Wm. Pearson, a painter; Lewis Tate, a carpenter, the latter of whom said, > m reply to Mr Bright, that when coming out of the shop deceased appeared to be following Easton for a purpose. ' THE VERDICT. The jury returned the following verdict : The deceased, Janies Blanee, died from a fracture of. the skull caused by a fall, due to a blow or push delivered by James Kerr Easton on April Bth in Gladstone road. ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT. The accused man Easton was brought up at a special sitting of the Court at the Polite (Station last night, beforeMessrs J. Townley and W. E. Ackro.vd, J.P.’s. Mr H. E. Bright again appeared for the accused, who was remanded until Wednesday, 19th inst. Bail was allow0C1 —s-elf in £250 and two sureties m £250 each.
