NEW VERSE FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM.

Mr. Martin Skeffiimton ilias supplied a new verse for the National Anthem. No one, probably, would attempt to alter the melody, which (says the ‘ ‘Daily Telegraph”) is said to have been composed by John Bulls, Mus. D., in 1606, for a dinner given to James 1., at Merchant Taylors’ Hall; for that melody has not only become part and parcel of our'national life, but has, as everyone knows, been adopted for the German National Anthem (“Hcil dir im Siegerkranz!”), and also for the Danish. But the text of the hymn is undoubtedly capable of some emendations. The new verse for the National Anthem by Mr. Martin S. Skeffington runs thus:—

With. England’s Grown, to-day We *liail our King, and pray God save tlie King! Guide him jn happiness. Guard him in storm and stress, Then in Thy kingdom bless And crown our King!
