OUTBREAK AT TE ARAI
In the early honrs of Wednesday morning an outbreak of fire occurred, by means of which Mr R. Williamson s store, billiard room and hairdressing saloon were totally destroyed. How the outbreak occured is a mystery, as on tihe Tuesday night the only fire on the premises was in the billiard room, and it was apparently out when the premises were locked up tor the night. When the outbreak was discovered the flames had a very strong hold and the building, with its contents, was gutted. The building comprised four rooms, store, storeroom, billiard room and hairdressing saloon. In the latter, amongst other stock in trade, were two valuable chairs and the billiard' table was valued at £llO. while the contents of the store consisted of drapery and groceries of the estimated value of about £7OO.
The buildings were insured for £6OO, and the contents for £325, in the Atlas Office, but the owner is said to estimate liis actual loss as considerably in excess of these figures.
