YOUNG MAORI PARTY.
CONFERENCE AT NAPIER
CPEB PRESS ASSOCIATIONS
NAPIER, April 20. The fifteenth conference of the southern division of the Young Maori Party commenced its session to-day at Te Hauke. There was a large attendance of representative Maoris from all parts of the district, in addition to a considerable number of visitors. Speeches of welcome were made by local Maoris and (replied to bv the visitors. The president (Mr J. Thornton), in his reply, outlined the field of operations of the party and sketched the programme of the conference, which promises to he a very successful gathering. Several subjects affecting the welfare of the Maoris are down for discussion, and keen debates are anticipated., Amongst the visiting clergy already on the spot are the Revs. Pine Tamahori and' Tome Hakiwai. Others are expected. The Hon: A. T. Ngata, Dr. "Wi Repa (of Gisborne). Messrs H. R. IT. Balneavis, H. P. Tomoana, H. Rireka, Mohi Tii Atahikoia (Taranaki), Te IJa and others wore also present. The W.C.T.-U. was represented l by Misses Rebecca Smith and Aperahama Reupemu. After the midday adjournment the president delivered his address and notices of motion were received. yTlie conference will hold three sittings daily and probably last till Monday next.
