IMPERIAL PROBLEMS.
THE DOMINIONS AND WORLD POLITICS.
[UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.] LONDON, April 19.
'die “Times” states that the oversea Dominions are being driven at a dozen points into practical world politics on their own account, and acquiring commercial and industrial interests, sometimes conflicting with those of Britain. There is no real security for any Imperial problem, whether of population, defence, or commerce, unless there js a mutual understanding. Five nations would find it impossible to continue a system whereby foreign policy uas a sealed book to all but* one oartner. Itwas necessary tbat the British Government give a' frank explanation of the British policy and suggest an arrangement whereby there will he an understanding to maintain it while the conference is not in session. This was the real problem behind New Zealand’s proposals. The foreign policy had hitherto been continuous, whether Conservatives or Liberals were in office. It was necessary for that policy to be strengthened by becoming Imperial, securing the conscious and continuous support of the Governments oversea. It was all important that Sir V ilfred Laurier should be able to attend. The “Daily Mail” lias a leader expressing similar views.
