Reuter’s representative interviewed Admiral Henderson, who said that lie had been much impressed with the intense loyalty existing in Australia. The basis of the naval scheme was the belief that an enemy threatening any part of the Empire is Australia’s enemy, and the immense paramount necessity for an Australian navy supporting the rest of the Empire’s naval forces. The defence of Austalian coasts and shipping was only a secondary object. In war time the essential place of the fleet was under the Admiralty.
