SOCIAL AND GENERAL NEWS.

The rink was very crowded on Thursday evening, when a living model exhibited herself in the Harem skirt. Thank goodness it is a too ultrafashionable garment to ever win favor in the eyes of any lover of the beautiful. At the Rink lately I have noticed among the devotees of skating Mrs J. Murphy, Mrs R. U. Burke, Miss Bennett, Mrs F. Traill, Miss Myra AgnewBrown, Murray, R. Coleman, L. Nolan, Davis, and others. Mrs Margliouth of Napier, is visiting Gisborne. On Easter Tuesday Mr. and Mrs G. N. Glassford, Tiniroto, gave a most delightful dance at their residence. There were many visitors present from all parts of the district, and dancing was kept going merrily until the wee sma’ hours of the morning. On Wednesday evening, Mr. and Mrs J. H. Bull entertained some young people at a musicale. Among others present Were: Misses Joll (Waipawa), J. Macdonald N. Patterson, T. Mackenzie, D. Chrisp, I. Chrisp, V. Butler, B. Graham, i.nd A Bull. Messrs Bernard, Richmond, J. Graham, H. Simson, Gleesen. Murray, Heilier Evans, and others.' Miss Eileen Davis is visiting Napier. Miss Kitty Williams is visiting her brother, Mr.'P. 11. Williams, Hastings. Miss Ludbrook is the guest of Miss Williams, Te Aute, Hawke’s Bay. Miss Ethel Morrison, who will be better (remembered as Miss Ethel Maginnity, who visited us as a singer, js now touring the London provinces with the “Chocolate Soldier” company, and is meeting with much success. It is now' definitely decided that Mr. and Mrs F. Traill will not be leaving Gisborne. Major and Mrs Dean-Pitt left Auckland last week en-route for England. Lady Stout, when the last English mail left, was lecturing in the North of London, in the interests of women’s suffrage. The Poverty Bay Golf Club will open its season- with a mixed foursome at the links in Childer’s Road this afternoon, when it is hoped that all members and their friends' will be present. Afternoon tea will be provided by the lady members. Miss M. Whittaker was the guest of the Misses Williams at Hukarere, Napier. Mr. Dugald Williams of Ngat-apa, was married at Napier on Tuesday, to Miss Maud Anderson of that town.
