PERSONAL NOTES.

A pleasing function took place at Makauri yesterday evening, when the members of the County Association Football Club and their friends met at Mr Basil Sharp’s residence to bid farewell to Mr Preston Hoult, who is about to pay a visit to the Old Country. Mr H. Binnie, on behalf of the club, presented Mr Hoult with a case of pipes as a souvenir of the many hard fought games of soccer in which he had taken part as a member of the club. He expressed the wishes of the members that Mr Hoult might have a pleasant voyage Home and a continuance of prosperity and also that he might return in time to take his place in the club’s team next season. He proposed the toast of health and prosperity to Mr Hoult. Mr Basil Sharp also spoke and expressed regret that the club was being deprived of Mr Hoult’s services this season. Messrs Bolton. Quirke, McKinley and others spoke to similar effect, and Mr Hoult made a suitable response. An enjoyable evening occupied with songs, instrumental solos, recitations and gramophone selections, was spent. A Press Association telegram from Timaru states that the Rev. J. Baumber, Who has been unwell for a long time, underwent a serious operation yesterday, and was reported to be doing well,-
