Canterbury 3Jd (small, supply), North Island 3d (large supply), River Plate 2§cl (large supply, being strongly pushed for sale. Lamb : The'market is a shade weaker, as the result of heavy arrivals. Large shipments are expected. Stocks of lamb are accumulating. Canterbury is at other than Canterbury 4£d, Australian 3fd, River Plate 3gd. Beef: The market is quiet, with a tendency in favour of buyers. Supplies of River Plate are heavy. New Zealand hindquarters 4d, forequarters 2Jd. Butter: The market remains firm. For choicest New Zealand butter 109 s, Australian 102 s Danish 116 s, (Siberian 102 s.
Cheese: The market is quieter, but we have a favourable opinion of New Zealand at 62s 6d per cwt.' American offerings are in moderate quantities at about 60s.
Hemp: The market is dull. New Zealand good to fair, on spot, per ton, £2O; fair grade, £l9; forward shipment about the same price; fair current Manila. on spot, per ton, £l9; forward shipment, £l9 os. The output from Manila for the week was 29.000 bales. Cocksfoot seed: The market is firm, with a better demand. Bright, clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171 b per b.ushel, per cwt 775. Pork is at s£d per lb (nominal).
Eggs: The market is quiet, but firm. Moderate supplies are going forward. Italian, 7s 9d to 9s; Danish, 7s 6d to 9s 6d; 'Hungarian, os 9d to 7s 3d; Russian, 5s 9d to 6s 9d. Poultry: The market is quiet, but steady. American chickens, 8d to 9d per lb; Russian, 74d to 84d; ducklings, 6d to 7d; turkeys, 7d. The wool market remains firm. HOME MARKETS. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.} LONDON, April 23. Butter is quiet, with secondaries slow and unchanged. There is good inquiry for choicest sorts. Victorian (salted) 100 s to 102 s (occasionally 104 s), unsalted 106 s to 108 s; New South Wales, about 2s less; New Zealand, salted 106 sto 110 s, unsalted 112 sto 114 s. Cheese is firm and unchanged. The wheat market is firm, with the demand improving, especially on the Continent, owing to unfavourable crop reports from Russia. Three Australian cargoes sold at 33s 9d, 33s 10Jd, and 34s respectively. Holders are asking 33s 9d for New South Wales steamer March shipment and South Australian shipments; 33s 6d has been paid for Victorian parcels afloat. There is small business in Australian on spot at 3,6 s 3d. The Bradford wool market is firm and unchanged.
