TOTALS FOR LAST YEAR. COLLECTION AT THE! CHIEF - PORTS. The returns of Customs and excise duties received . during the financial year just ended show that not only has the revenue recovered from the shrinkage due to the depression of last year, but it has exceeded the amount obtained in 1907 before the substantial concessions upon necessaries of life were made during the tariff revision of that year. The following are the totals for the last two years:— - , £ 1910 3,145,941 1909 2,773,438 Increase 1910 ... £372,503 Last year’s revenue was £76,519 in excess of the year 1907, prior to the reduced tariff. The duties collected at the various ports during the year 1910 were as follow : £ Wellington 797.215 Auckland . 735,494 Lyttelton and Christchurch 464,277 Dunedin 435,745 Napier 99,667 Invercargill 95.850 Wanganui 69,346 Timaru 50,793 Poverty Bay 48,382 New Plymouth ... 45,196 Nelson 38,642 Grey mouth 32,977 Westport 14,163 Wai-rau . 12,327 Oamaru 7,794 Hokitika 7,592 Patea 4,782 Tauranga 1,067 Kaipara 337 In addition £60,657 was collected upon articles imported l through parcels post.
