THEATRICAL POSTERS.
“THE BAD GIRL” ACQUITTED
The posters used in advertising the melodrama, ‘ ‘The Bad Girl of the Family,” have been rescued from the stormy waters, into which they were driven during the performance of the play in Auckland. The protest made to the City Council in regard to the posters, was referred to the inspector of police, and Inspector Cullen’s judgment upon them was delivered to the Council at a. recent meeting. “I am of opinion,” Inspector Cullen stated, “that the posters referred to cannot be dealt with under the provisions of section 43 of the Police Offences Act, as they do not appear tobe indecent, immoral, or obscene. As. the hoardings, on which the posters complained of have been exhibited, are under the control of the 'City Council, 1 beg to suggest that the Council should pass a by-law making it compulsory for all posters to be submitted to an officer of the Council, for his approval. or otherwise, before they can be exhibited on hoardings within the city. The hoardings opposite the City Chambers on which the offending posters have been exhibited 1 , are, I believe,” the letter continued, “on land belonging to the Y.M.O.A. and' to the New Zealand Government.”
A smile spread round the Council table as the letter was read, and a motion that it should be received was carried without comment.
