ENTERTAINMENTS.

ROLLER SKATING

Yesterday the rink was kept busy all day, .tlie morning and afternoon sessions being very well attended. Afternoon skating is becoming more and more popular, no doubt on account of the weather becoming colder, and it is a favourite session for ladies and those not proficient on the elusive rollers. In the evening the rink rwas very largely attended, the floor being taxed to its utmost and the scene about 8.30 p.m. was a very gay one, with the crowd of ladies and gentlemen .whirling, round the jvide expanse of polished floor, the white dresses of the ladies being in bright contrast to file more sombre clothes of the gentlemen. Mr Robinson, the popular manager of the rink, and his staff were kept busy with the beginners and in keeping the large crowd to the uniform standard of speed maintained by the rink. The band played some 'good pieces during the evening. To-day the rink swill be open this morning and afternoon only, as the hall will be used by the Territorials to-night. To-morrow morning a children’s session will ,bo held at 10 o’clock. PAT’HE PICTURES. There was again a large audience at His Majesty’s Theatre last evening, when the Patlie Picture management submitted the popular “Big P.lk’s Turn down” programme for the Just time To-night another change of programme will be screened, the star itom of -the new selection being a beam-i----fuiiv enacted drama- entitled “Patricia ol the Plains.” Tire story, as toe title deals with life on the western plains of the United States and is pregnant with romance and chivalry. In the saane class also figure “Under Stars and Bars,” and “The Plucky American Girl,” both of which have won public favour and .a great amount of applause wherever shown. “The Australian Gazette” and “Patlie Gazette,’’ giving pictures of the momentous happenings all over the world, are valuable items in the series, while a strong combination of comics, including “Taming Grandfather” and “The Gold Fund” give variety to the programme. An exhibition of scientific billiards by Reece, one of the world’s leading players, should also prove an attractive subject. This series will be. shown for one night only, and will be replaced to-morrow night by another new programme, specially selected by the management’s Wellington agent, the star film of which is one entitled “The Lad from Ireland.”
