Odd scraps of linoleum can l>e used instead of wood to light a fire. When cutting bread and -butter very thin, dip the knife occasionally in very hot water. Wooden spoons and pasty-boards will repay a good scrubbing with sand in preference to soap. Wooden meat skewers should be sa\ed, as they are useful for getting into corners when wscrubbing woodwork. Cold floors are trying. If yours aro cemented, a.nd' you have them carpeted, and still feel the cold, try putting several layers of newspaper under the carpet. ■For an ironing-stand, instead of using the common implement made of iron, which admits the air through the air through the bottom, and' consequently cools the iron- quickly, try my suggestion. Take a. clean white brick, set it on the stove for half an hour before using as a stand for the iron .This keeps the iron hot a long time and retards radiation. Collars and cuffs will never blister if. starched on the right side. Peel onions from the root upwards, and they will -not make your eyes smart. When hanging out clothes, hang skirts by the bands, nightdresses by the shoulders, and stockings by the toes. Ginger poultices are as efficacious as mustard and will not blister. They should be made in the samei way. Choose lamp wicks that are soft and loosely woven. Soak them in vinegar and dry--thoroughly before using them.. When washing woollens, especially stockings, shake thoroughly to get rid of the dust, before putting them into the water. Clean enamelled saucepans with a rag dipped in powdered pumice-stone, after they have been well -boiled out, and they will look like new.
