BREWER’S GOLDEN WEDDING.
A GARGANTUAN CELEBRATION
Mr Adolphus Busch, a wealthy American brewer (says the Noav York correspondent of “The Times” on March 8), celebrated his golden Avedding yesterday at Pasadena, California, oix a scale Avhich compelled public attention. At break of day a battery of cannons announced that the celebration •; had commenced at Pasadena, where Mr and Mrs Busch live, and another battery furnished a similar signal at St., Louis where,for the first time in sixty years, the famous Busch BreAvery ceased producing liver of lager beer. Pasadena stopped Avork for the day, and St. Louis Avith 6000 employees, folloAved A proclamation Avas issued by Mr Busch asking all his friends and employees to join in the festivities, and intimating that he Avould foot the bill. Right heartily did they respond, and the despatches received here to-day Avould indicate that in splendour and scope the Busch celebration outdid any of the famous banquets of Babylon or ancient Rome. After the guns bad ceased to fire the portly Mr Busch, attended by his buxom and beaming partner, released 100 doves, Avhicli Avere despatched as emblems of peace. At the wedding feast last night, at the breAver’s mansion, Mrs Busch was croAvned and seated beside her husband on a miniature throne. The presents received by the couple are valued at £IOO,OOO, and' came from all parts of the States, more particularly from the German-speaking sections of Pennsylvania. The most beautiful and costly of the presents was the diadem presented to Mrs Busch by her husband. It is a croAA r n of gold studded Avitli diamonds and pearls, and valued at £40,000. It Avas made at Frankfurt. The children presented their parents Avith a dozen full-sized dinner-plates made of solid gold, and A r alued at £5000; a solid gold flower-basket, valued at £3OOO, Avas received from the grandchildren; and the solid gold vase from the branch managers employed by the Breiving Association cost £40,000. There Avere gold loving-cups galore. One '-came from the Emperor William, says the “Noav York Sun’s” Pasadena correspondent, and another from Mr Theodore Roosefelt. President Taft sent a neAV gold coin, Avith an original design, fresh from the United States Mint, and Avortli about £4. From all parts of the country came tributes of personal affection to the aged couple and admiration for the famous Busch beer.
At the Coliseum, St. Louis, last night 6000 employees of the breAvery and their familiies honoured thenchief. Mr and Mrs EdAvard Faust, in a box, reviewed the biggest grand march that St Louis ever had seen. A band of 100 performers furnished music, and there Avere 100,000 bottles of beer to allay thirst, and thousands of sandAviches of various sorts to satisfy appetities. A congratulatory telegram Avas received from the Ben a Kiba Aid Society, a Jewish organisation, composed o'f 500 Avomen, also from the mayor and corporation of St. Louis, and practically every big house in that thriving city," all of Avhom recognise that Busch’s beer has made the city famous and prosperous.
