SIR JOSEPH WARD.
ENTERTAINED AT LUNCHEON.
BY NEW ZEALANDERS IN BRITISH PARLIAMENT. lUNITED PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.] LONDON, May 8. The Right Hon. Lewis Harcourt, Secretary of State for the Colonies, Mr Sydney Buxton, President of the Board of Trade, and Colonel Seely, Sir W. Hall-Jones, Lady and Miss Ward, Hon. Dr Findlay and Mrs Findlay, and 250 members of Parliament attended the luncheon tendered to Sir Joseph Ward by New Zealand members of the House of Commons. The Speaker, in proposing Sir Joseph Ward’s health, said that members of the House of Commons had watched his long career with great interest. They would never forget New Zealand’s timely offer of a Dreadnought to help the Navy when possible stress was ahead., Sir Joseph Ward received a great reception on rising to reply. He said that New Zealand recognised that anything they did to help the Motherland was also helping New Zealand and the other Dominions to maintain the strength of the whole Empire. He hoped as the outcome of the Imperial Conference that some practical system would be inaugurated for the assistance and preservation of the Empire. He was proud to see New Zealand so worthily represented in the House of Commons.
