THE THREE KIN S.
HALS. CAMBRIAN’S SURVEY
(.FEE, PKESS ASSOCIATION.J
WELLINGTON, May 10. After leaving Auckland recently, H.M.S. Cambrian made a fresh survey of the Three Kings, which had the effect of modifying' the previous estimates of the variation of distance between the actual position of the islands and that shown on the original chart. At the time of her previous survey, the Cambrian reported that the position of the Three Kings was about two or three miles south and a little to the west of the charted position. The other day, however, the Cambrian landed a. party on the islands, in order to take fresh observations. As a result, the Admiral lias furnished the Marine Department with further information, which gives the position of the islands as only 1* miles south and one-third of a mile east of the charted position. This makes a difference of about 1 \ miles in latitude and one mile in longitude between the Cambrian’s first and second observations. There will be a notice published in this week’s Gazette about this fresh survey.
