TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the East Coast Trades and Labor Council was held on Saturday evening Mr. A. Richards (President) in the chair. The Typographical Unioin wrote notifying the appointment of its delegates to the Council for the ensuing year.—The President, extended a cordial weir come -back' to. the Council of Mr. Nasmith the first President of the Council. —The delegate, in reply, stated that so long as the. meeting was held on a Saturday evening, fie would take an active interest in the Council. A resolution from tine Executive of the Trades Conference re rating on, unimproved values was received, and referred back to the Executive for further information. It was resolved that an enlargement photoghaph of the 1 late Councillor Jackson be procured and hung up in the The question of making the Avails of the meeting room more attrachfve by the hanging of labor emblems, etc., was raised and each Union is to bo asked to place any photographs of its executive officers at the disposal of the Council for the purpose-. It was also resolved, after much discussion, to- have a- photograph taken of the Trades Council every year and placed in the ball, atnd also that a copy he presented to the retiring president. It has been decided to inace a noticeboard at the entrance to the hall, whereon will l -be placed t-lie names ox the Unions holding their meetings therein, the date, and hour of meeting, and the name and address of the secretary. The matter of providing postal boxes in the ball for, the convenience of the Unions Avas raised, and it AV-as resorted to ascertain the cost, and lay the. same before the several Unions. It Avas resorted to ascertain, the cost cf a raised platform for the President, the same to be laid before the next meeting. , ... , . Mr. J. C. E. Turner was elected vicepresident of the Council. After the passing of accounts the Council adjourned.
