HOCKEY.

POVERTY BAY HOCKEY ASSOCIATION. The weekly meeting of the Poverty Bay Hockey Association was held in the Royal Hotel last evening, Mr. W. ■Ogilvie presiding over a large attendance. The first round of the Saturday Mens competitions was drawn, next Saturday’s matches being as follows : —Civil Service v Mercantile 2.10’ p.m., and Banks and Law clerks v. Mr. Olsen’s team at 3.1-5 p.m. in Mr. Corroll’s paddock. Mr. E. H. Pavitt was appointed referee. It was decided to commence the ladies matches on Saturday next on the High School grounds. The first round being Saturday 20th., Kowhai v. Gisborne High School at 3 p.m. Thursday 25th G.Ii.S. v. Gisborne Ladies. Sat-

urday 27th Kowihai v. Gisboime Ladies, all -at 3 p.mU ' ' • . Arrangements for- referees: for these matches will be made by 'Mr. Olsen. The following referees wens appointed for the Thursday Men’s matches: City v. West End, 2.15 p.m., Mr. E. H. Pavitfc; Civil Service v. Y.M.O.A. Messrs Olsen and' Rees, It was decided to play 5 rounds this season. A very hearty vote of thanks was passed to-Mr. Alfred! J, Cox of the firm of Messrs W. Good and Co., for the presentation of a very handsome challengeshield for competition between the ladies- clubs of the Bay.
