Local and General.
The mounted parade of the Gisborne and Makauri troops, which-was ordered for Saturday, was postponed till next Saturday, on account of the inclement weather. The new! service uniforms, recently imported from London by the East Coast Mounted Rifles, were issued on Friday night, when the non-commissioned officers! of the squadron were supplied.
The Gisborne General Laborers’ Union has received their certificate of registration from the Registrar, and it is understood that steps are being taken to cite the employers before the Conciliation Council.
The following tenders have been, received by the Cook Countv Council for widening and cleaning out Gray’s drain. Waiohika: D. Courtney £l43', (informal) ; Mooney and McLellan, £l4B, (accepted) ; A. H. Jones. £155; H. Ogden, £163 8s 6d. . The revenue received at the local Custom House during the week which ended on Saturday was as follows: Customs duties, £785 6s beer duty £B4 11s, light dues £4 8s 9d, shipping fees 10s, other receipts £8 9s: total £BB3 4s 9d. ‘ ,

For the evening of June Ist -His Majesty’s • Theatre .has been engaged by the Kowliai Ladies’ Hockey Club for their initial ball, and judging, by the efforts of the hard-working committee the function will be an unqualified success. Messrs .Vita Bros, and Dods supply the music, and the floor will undergo a special preparation. “How. John Wesley and early Methodism utilised psychic forces,” was. tlie title of a- lecture given by the Rev S. Barnett at the Masonic Hall last evening. There was a large attendance, and the speaker received a most attentive hearing. In response to numerous requests the Rev. Barnett will, lecture two or three weeks longer .
