POVERTY BAY GOLF CLUB
Owing to the recent heavy rains the links were in a moist state on Saturday, and a good deal of casual water lay about. Notwithstanding that the weather prospects were anything but of a reassuring nature, a good number of players turned out on Saturday afternoon. The day was an “off” one, as far as competitions were concerned, but some useful practice was put in by those who were out. The bridge leading from the “All-but” green to the eighteenth tee was submerged, but little things like that appear to have no power to damp the enthusiasm of devotees of the ancient game. During the past fortnight, Stewart, the newly-appointed coach, has been engaged putting the links in order. His work, both as groundsman and coach, is highly spoken of. The Napier and Hastings Golf Clubs both intend sending teams to Gisborne this season,' and if these visits eventuate they should add materially 'to interest in the game here. A four-ball match (medal), figures on the card of the local club for Saturday nest.
