EAST COAST RABBIT BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING

The usual monthly meeting of the East Coast Rabbit Board was (held on Saturday, the following being present): Messrs E. M. Hutchinson, Ross Field and Hennessy (secretary). In the absence of the chairman Mr Hutchinson was voted to the chair.

Inspector E. J. Turner, of Wairoa, reported having visited Willow Flat, Mongahapoi, Pohokura, Te Haroto, iarawera, Runanga and Rarigatiki stations. He had spent two days on Willow Flat, but had found no traces of rabbits. On Mongalhopai he had started' nine rabbits and killed three. Only one other part was infested. This was a point between the road and the Waipunga River, where five had been started and one killed. The total number of rabbits killed during the. month was 22.

Inspector McGill reported from Opotiki that he had just returned' from Hick s Bay where lie (had stayed for over a fortnight and he was quite satisfied that there were no .rabbits there. He also had a good look', round the country surrounding the WharekaP^ a I .^ lver aS( . ar a& Hick’s Bay, but x think the Board 1 needed to aii? U /-v itself about rabbits being there. Tug Opotiki men had only caught one rabbit since'the Inspector had been away, and he thought it. advisable that two men should be moved from Opotiki to Te Teko, so as to get the rabbits thoroughly cleaned out of that district. He expected to be able to report on the Galatea sidle early. It was decided to leave the matter of moving men from the, Opotiki to Te Teko block in the hands of the Inspector.

A lengthy letter from Inspector D. Ross, of Hastings, in which he complained regarding certain tracts of country near the boundary between the Hawke’s Bay Rabbit District and East Coast Rabbit District was read and a long discussion took place, and it was to ask Inspectors Turner and McGill to meet'' and discuss the position in their districts and afterwards report to the Board!.- Both inspectors' were also to be instructed to pay more attention to poisoning in their districts. It is understood that the substance of the letter will be fully dealt with at the next meeting of the Board.
