LOSES HEAVILY IN MINING VENTURE.
PRESS ASSOCIATION.j „. . . AUCKLAND. May 22. . victims of the tragedy reported m a cablegram' - were Mrs and 1 Mrs Segar Bashard, formerly of Auckland. Pasiia'rd was about Bo years of age the only son of Mm T. S. Bashard, of Ponsonby. >. He was married about eight or nine years age to Miss Bullen, of Auckland. He carried on business as a chemist for. some years. As a result or speculation in hidden treasure at Golden Bay (Nelson), a mining venture, he lost heavily four or five years ago. Mrs Bashard and child returned ro Auckland. They remained here for some time, afterwards going back to Sydney. Bashard suffered very acutely from neuralgia. On his, return to Auckland; last year it was noticed that he had aged considerably through his affliction, his hair then ’almost white. The child was six years of age, not eight years, as stated in the cablegram.

FAILURE OF AN INVENTION
(Received May 22, 9.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 22. The Bashard’s came from' Auckland and were married at All Saints’ Ghurcn on October 10th, 1801. The wife was formerly a Miss Bullen, daughter of a. schoolmaster. Bashard’s son was a warehouseman. They had been in Sydney for four years. A post mortem revealed 1 the fact that there was prussic a cid ! in each body. It is stated that Bashard was financially ruined' through the failure of an invention for treating refractory ore.
